BopCut getting started guide
How to edit your first video with BopCut
Start with a short video and one audio file. This makes it easy to check playback, learn the timeline and complete a first export.
1. Open the editor
Go to the BopCut video editor in a current desktop browser. Chrome or Edge is recommended for the local export workflow. Keep your source files available on your device and choose a short clip for your first project.
2. Import your media
Use the editor’s import control to select a video, image or audio file. Wait for it to appear in the media panel. If it does not play, check that the browser supports the codec inside the file. Try another short file to distinguish a media compatibility issue from a problem with the project.
3. Add clips to the timeline
Double-click an imported media item or use its add control to place it on the timeline. Arrange the clips in the order you want. The playhead indicates the current preview position; move it to check the beginning, transitions between clips and the end of your sequence.
4. Trim and preview
Drag a clip’s edges to adjust its visible duration. Play the sequence and listen to its sound. Check that there is no unwanted gap at the start or between clips. For a first test, keep the sequence short enough to review from beginning to end.
5. Save your project
Use the project save control before leaving the editor. A project file contains editing information and is not the same as the finished video. Keep the original media files: reopening a project may require you to select them again.
6. Export a playable video
Open the export dialog, choose MP4 or WebM and select a resolution. Start with 720p for a quick test. Keep the BopCut tab in the foreground until the export finishes, then open the saved video to verify the image, sound and duration.
If your browser does not support MP4 recording, try WebM or a current Chrome or Edge version. The BopCut export guide explains the available settings and how to check the result.
Before you make a longer edit
Check that your first export plays correctly. Keep a saved project and a copy of its source media, and allow time for the full export. Browser memory, source resolution and codec support can affect the size of a project you can comfortably edit.
